Commissioner Curtis Holmes

Commissioner Curtis Holmes LARGO (FOX 13) – A city commissioner will not resign and will not have to give back his city-issued iPad after several of his colleagues called for him to do so at the Sept. 16 commission meeting.

All but one of the city commissioners voted to drop a resolution to censure Commissioner Curtis Holmes for emails sent between two of his email accounts.

Holmes called that attempt a total waste of time, and said he was happy with Tuesday night’s meeting outcome.

“It’s really pathetic is what it is,” Holmes said after the meeting. “It went from nothing, to all of a sudden, a great scandal going on in Largo. This is nonsense.”

The other commissioners, even the mayor, weren’t happy with the way Holmes was using his city-owned iPad for personal use.

Admittedly, Holmes was emailing links of news articles, satirical Facebook pictures and other links to himself from one email account to another on the iPad.

At the commission meeting on Sept. 16, Commissioner Jamie Robinson was the first to address the transfer of links between Holmes’ email accounts, describing them as racist, sexist and pornographic.

“Honestly I think Commissioner Holmes should resign,” Robinson said at the meeting.

And others were quick to follow.

“It’s city property, and I think it should be relinquished,” Mayor Patricia Gerald added.

“As a mother I would say that I’m very ashamed of the way [Holmes] acted,” Commissioner Harriet Crozier weighed in.

And finally, Commissioner Michael Smith said he’d support censuring of Commissioner Holmes over the issue.

That tune changed after several citizens spoke, both for, and against the resolution.

The commissioners and the mayor waited patiently through more than an hour of heated discussion before they decided to drop the issue.

Holmes’ attorney Brian Battaglia addressed the commission by rhetorically questioning what crimes Holmes committed.

After the hearing he said they are pleased with the commission’s decision, but would not say if they plan to take further action.
